These wonderful bass
drums, are played by hand. For all those who love warm and
soft drum sounds.
Traditionally
they come from the Casamance, belonging to the southern
Senegal between Gambia and Guinea Bissau. Bougarabous
have an unshaved, thick cow skin that is much more robust
than Djembé skins. Bougarabous
are suited to accompany djembés but they are not
loud enough to stand up to large percussion ensembles.
We also recommend bougarabous for children.
